LLS & TNT

This beard blog is meant to be fun but there is purpose behind it. The idea is to promote the efforts of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Through their work LLS's goal is to "cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families." Together with Team In Training and other fundraising programs LLS is able to provide immediate help to families affected by blood cancers and will one day acheive the goal of finding a cure through the research they fund.

So, if you would like to join the fight against cancer please donate through the link on the right side of the page and read about all of the work LLS is doing to prevent blood cancers from destroying more lives.

Everyone is capable of helping either by donating, forwarding this information to family, friends and co-workers or by getting involved through one of LLS's programs.

Please return for weekly beard, training and fundraising updates.

Anywho

Well it's been a few weeks and the beard is looking ok. I've had a beard for a long time and I have only shaved my face completely once since I started dating my wife 7 years ago. Afterwards, I felt weird. I was emotionally naked. It was like removing my beard had removed some forcefield around my head and now people could read my thoughts.

Originally I grew my beard in college after running out of razors and I was too lazy to buy new ones. After a couple of weeks I could see that it wasn't too patchy and given some time it might even look like a real beard. So it was mostly out of laziness that I started to grow a beard. But then I got used to it and so I've had a beard for almost 10 years.

Anywho, it's never been more than about twice the length it is now. So we will see what happens in a few weeks. Until then, please donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by clicking on the link on the right side of the screen.

Also, I am aware that there is absolutely no correlation between the cause and me growing a beard. But I figured it would be fun and whoever sponsors me can't really watch me train or run the marathon but they can follow the progress of my beard growth. Well, enjoy.

Bearded

I recently read an article about Movember in which dudes grow moustaches for the month of November to raise awareness about prostate cancer. I like the idea but I'd like to take it a step further and include the entirety of the face. So I am starting the "Beards Against Blood Cancer" movement, which I'm pretty sure will just be me with a huge beard in April. Why April? Because I am running the Boston Marathon with Team In Training which raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

I already have a "decent" beard going but I do not plan on shaving it until the Boston Marathon in April. This could get crazy, but with the support of the general public, I can make this happen. By support, I mean donations to my fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Pictures of the beards progress will be posted periodically.

I'm going to look into the areodynamics of beards. This could affect my marathon time.

Thoughts?
